The Animals Shelter Society,INC. is a private non-profit shelter that became incorporated in 1964. A small building was established in 1968 with a move to our current location in 1998. The shelter was able to expand in 2003 and again in 2008. Those expansions include an additional cat room, quarantine area, community room and wellness clinic and surgery room.
The mission of the shelter is to provide care for the homeless animals in the Muskingum County Area. The shelter provides adoption services, low cost spay and neuter services, microchipping, community education, cell dog program, and annual spay and neuter extravaganzas when over 60 cats receive spay/neuter services. The shelter has an in house veterinarian as well three veterinarian technicians. All animals that enter the shelter receive medical care and are prepared for their forever homes. The shelter is an Adoptable No –Kill shelter therefore, the shelter does not euthanize due to space or length of time an animal remains in the shelter. During the past several years the shelter has provided care to over 2000 animals per year.
The shelter operates as a private non-profit and relies on the support of the community. The shelter receives no government funding. The shelter is the only facility in our county and therefore the demand for services is very high.
