We are currently looking to fill the position of Propane Driver / Service Technician based at our Black Run (Nashport, OH) Service Center. This position is responsible for providing direct support and services to all members/consumers served. This position requires manual labor to successfully perform some of the essential duties and an individual must ensure compliance and understanding of all safety standards and practices relating to the propane industry.

Nature and Scope of Position (Essential Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Support and incorporate the Cooperative’s Mission, Vision and Values in professional behavior and decisions.
  • Comply with all Cooperative policies, procedures, goals and objectives and meet attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Understand, observe and enforce cooperative safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions to department supervisor and/or safety department personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws.
  • Install and replace propane storage tanks, lines, regulators, and meters at various member locations.
  • Perform gas leak and appliance inspections.
  • Perform line leak testing through the utilization of special equipment used specifically in the propane gas industry.
  • Evaluate potential locations for the installation of propane tanks, regulators and lines.
  • Deliver propane and propane accessories to members.
  • Respond to emergency calls which may include after regular working hours and on Saturdays, Sundays, and company-observed holidays.
  • Prepare documentation on propane installations, checks, replacements, repairs and inspections.
  • Perform other related work in addition to other duties as may be assigned.

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma along with two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certificates, Licenses and/or Training: Must possess a valid Class B or greater Commercial Driver’s License supplemented by a good driving record. Possess or ability to obtain hazardous materials, tanker and air brakes endorsements. Obtain through an approved testing agency, certification in propane system installation, operation and service. Ability to attend meetings and/or training seminars when requested.
  • Language and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret publications outlining Standard Gas Codes, NFPA-54 and NFPA-58 pertaining to gas systems, National Fuel Gas Codes and Standard Industry Practices. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Utilize various resources to stay informed of new technology in the gas industry. Must understand and maintain compliance with approved industry methods and safety practices and regulatory guidelines outlined by the Company and/or gas industry. Ability to identify and utilize the use of tools commonly used in the gas industry.

  • While performing this job, an employee would regularly walk, stand, bend, crouch, kneel, stoop, use hand tools to open and close trenches, operate other tools and power equipment and drive a Company truck. Successful performance requires sufficient strength to lift objects in excess of 50 pounds, on occasion. In general, employees handling weight in excess of 50 pounds are expected to utilize lifting devices or obtain the assistance from other employees. Must have the ability to perform work in adverse weather conditions.
